BRIDGE BUILDING...A JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME
By Gerald Cumby
Do you want to take a trip...a journey of a lifetime? The trip will be long and tiring,
but...ahh...so rewarding! The journey will require some unique equipment which should
be worn at all times. This trip of a lifetime will require some preparation, some
thought, and some action.
I don't know about you, but I love to be surprised at all the scenery and excitement on
my way to my planned destination. The waterfalls, the roadside parks, the mountains,
the rivers, and the bridges on which we travel across to get to our destination have
all played a part in helping to make my trip a trip of a lifetime. I think, however,
the most exciting thing about getting to my destination is getting to meet the people
on the way...my family, friends, new friends and acquaintances whom we know that we will
probably never see again, the person who wanted to know the directions to whatever or
wherever, and the family who needed to be helped financially in order to get home...all
have made my trip to my final destination fun, exhilarating, and most rewarding. I feel
each of the experiences was just another bridge I was destined to cross as I have made
my way to my final destination.
My final destination is the place I have read about in the greatest book ever written.
My destination from the beginning of my journey is home. Home is where many of my
friends are. Home is where my family whom I have longed to see again since they
departed for their final leg of their journey home; and home is where my Lord and my
God have waited for my arrival.
Want to go with me? Put your equipment on and come go with me. Be sure and wear your
helmet of salvation. This is the only piece you must carry with you at all times.
Other pieces of equipment are important, but salvation is a must to go on the same
trip with me in order to reach the final destination.
Home is heaven. Home is where my heart is. Home is where all the bridge builders are
who have helped me to get in the position to cross over to the other side of eternity.
I'm still stretching for my final lap home. I can see the lights now, but there will be
one or two more bridges to cross.
Since you are so very important to me, I have prayed that you will long for the same
destination.
Bon Voyage!

with your absence, then you have wasted your life."
